House of Hope Romanian Orphan Ministry

A Place to call Home

Mission Centre

On her first trip to Campulung, on February 1997, the Lord gave Rebecca a vision for a Mission Centre to help the orphans and community. She carried the vision and dream around for a few years. The Lord provided our property in June of 2000 and our ground-breaking was September 25, 2000. We hired the construction men that the Lord directed us to and they have built this Centre since that time. Romanian construction is much more difficult than in the United States and most of this building has been built under difficult conditions. Most all of the cement was made by hand in our cement maker machine and most all of the digging, even the full basement under the kitchen area, was done shovel by shovel.

It was amazing to see year by year how the building was progressing. The men were not able to work during the winter months, because of the severe, harsh weather. As you can see by the pictures, the progression of the construction has been steady. Currently, much is complete, along with all of the electric finished inside and out, sewage inside and out and most of the rooms are dry-walled and ready for the final completion.

At present we are working on our heating system. This will be water heated by gas and piped through radiators. This is quite expensive and we cherish your prayers. After this heating system is complete, we can finish up the rooms and quickly open. When finished, this building will be able to house 85 to 100 children that are at great risk at present.

The building consists of the following: Main floor has a kitchen with several rooms to accommodate, the meat room, vegetable room, dry food room and the cooking room. Also we will have a room for dishwashing. Our dining room is next with also a conference room, a large community room with large fireplace for community programs, community restrooms, reception room, Administration Wing with offices, Medical rooms, Dental room, Laundry rooms plus an apartment with one bedroom and garage.

The second floor consists of dormitory rooms, for 4 to 8 children. A huge rumpus room for children’s activities, a Chapel, An educational room for teaching computers and individual tutoring and a large, 2 bedroom apartment, showers and bathrooms and counselors rooms on both sides.

The third floor consists of dormitory rooms, bathrooms and showers and a rumpus room along with an emergency exit. Our entire building has handicapped ramps for our wheelchair children.

Our Mission Centre has a large barn that will eventually house 4 cows. We also have a Chicken coup and we currently have 20 chickens and 4 turkeys. There is a place for pigs between these two buildings. We have had a huge garden since 2000 and grow many vegetables that we used to feed the children. We also planted a 255 tree orchard in 2000 and have cherries, plums, peaches, pears and many apple trees. We had our first apple harvest last year and we were able to can and freeze those apples.

Campulung is a very rural area and our children will be taught; animal-husbandry, gardening, taking care of an orchard, cooking, cleaning, sewing, computers, pottery and carpentry. Our goal is to train these children and to job place and family place as many children as we can. We need to be as self-sufficient as possible. We will make cheese and butter in the future and hopefully we will be able to sell some things at the local piata.

We were given funds for a gymnasium last year, and have begun getting the property ready for building. We also will have a playground for the children as well as a soccer and basketball field.
