House of Hope Romanian Orphan Ministry

A Place to call Home

Orphanage Work

Rebecca began working in the government orphanage, the Lord directed her to, in February 1997. This orphanage housed 100 boys, who were very much at risk. They were deprived in everyway and Rebecca began preparing 4 to 5 meals each week for them, along with helping the orphanage with educational needs, medical needs and taking the children to the local Baptist Church. Many Mission Teams came to help with this work and to love on the children. We began having Vacation Bible School with the children and helping and training them in everyway we could. We began Sunday School each week with the children at the orphanage and at the local Baptist Church. This orphanage was closed by the government in 2000 and these precious boys were sent all over the country side to different government orphanages. Most of these boys were “true” orphans; orphans that did not know or ever see, any of their blood family. The government closed many orphanages all over Romania and in doing so, ripped children from the only home and family they had ever known. As terrible as the conditions were for the children, these were the only homes they had ever known. We believe this boy’s orphanage was one of the worst in all of Romania and that is why the Lord led Rebecca there in the beginning.

Some of the boys were transferred to another orphanage in town and our ministry began working at this orphanage. We have traveled all over Romania, finding our boys that were transferred from the first orphanage. In the new orphanage where we began working and currently work at, there are boys and girls from ages 6 to 20 years old. We cook supper for the children each Friday night and also cook breakfast each Sunday for the children, along with having Sunday School with them. We also take some of them to church each Sunday, when they are allowed to attend. We have helped the orphanage with building projects, heating, educational supplies, medical supplies and clothing for the children, along with holiday presents and more. Even though, we now have custody of our first 8 children and house and train them, we continue to work with the local orphanages. Many of these children we have known for many years and we love them. We hope to help them even more in the future. When the Mission Centre is open we will still continue to help in the local orphanages. Our goal will always be to help improve the conditions of the orphanages, introduce them into the community and most especially, improve the quality of life for the orphans and the hope of a great future.
